Age of Empires III (also called AoE III, or simply Age 3) is the latest addition to the series of the Age of Empires. It is a real-time strategy (RTS) game and like all other Age of Empires this too has been developed by Ensemble Studios and published by Microsoft Game Studios. The game portrays the European colonization of the Americas, between approximately AD 1500 and 1850. Eight European civilizations are playable.

Age of Empires 3 is a great advancement over its predecessors both in terms of graphics and gameplay. This game combines both real time strategy and role play.In addition to the initial game,Microsoft released two more versions namely Age of Empires 3:The Warchiefs which introduced 3 more Native American Civilizations and Age of Empires 3:The Asian Dynasties which included 3 more Asian civilizations.

Age of empires 3 has sold over 2 million copies worldwide since its release in October 2005.

Age of Empires 3 has been set in the 1400 to 1800 AD.Like its previous Age of empires versions(The Age of Kings and The Conquerors),Age of Empires 3 requires you to build your own kingdom by collecting various resources and building up your army. The purpose of the game is to win the opponent by destroying his kingdom and his army.

For the first time in Age of empires, the concept of the home city has been introduced. This means that once you gain experience in the game, then you can ask for shipments which may include army units or resources from your home city.

Players begin with a constructed town center, an explorer and several settlers. The resources to collect in Age of Empires 3 are food, wood, coins and experience.Age of Empires 3 comes with 5 ages namely Colonial age,Discovery Age,Industrial Age,Imperial Age and Fortress Age.

It is quite a different experience from the previous versions with different civilizations, allies, units and resources. The game is definitely worth trying out.
